Stephen Curry Odds & Props - NBA October 24, 2023

The 2023-24 NBA season tips off on Tuesday night with an epic Western Conference doubleheader. Today I'm turning my attention to The Bay Area and the Stephen Curry odds where he and the Golden State Warriors host Kevin Durant and the Phoenix Suns.

Curry, the four-time NBA Champion, and two-time MVP, enters his 15th NBA season with his sights set on one more title run. NBA odds have Curry and the Dubs among the favorites and this matchup against KD and the Suns will be a great early test.

I'm looking at Curry-specific NBA player props for this matchup and hope to drain my NBA picks like the Splash Brothers drain threes.

Stephen Curry NBA prop pick

Steph Curry o4.5 made threes (-105)

The writing is on the wall. The time for Steph Curry and the Golden State Warriors to add another title to this amazing dynasty is running out. But after a weird year where the Dubs couldn’t win on the road and an early playoff exit, the team doesn’t want to waste whatever time is left for Curry and this crew.

So, out goes Jordan Poole, and in comes Chris Paul. The 38-year-old won’t just run the offense for the Warriors’ bench unit but will also be an elite playmaker to help Curry get more open looks when they are on the floor together. And I wouldn’t be surprised if we saw these two future Hall of Famers work some magic on opening night.

For starters, it appears Curry still hasn’t really lost a step when it comes to his off-the-ball movement and lightning-quick release. Last season, Steph hit a remarkable 42.7% of his 11.9 three-pointers per game — his best shooting percentage from beyond the arc since 2018-19.

That works out to 5.1 made threes per game last season. And now with Poole gone, it wouldn’t be a shock if those attempts went up as Poole accounted for nearly eight 3-pointers a game last season.

Then there is Tuesday night’s opponent. The Phoenix Suns are up there with the Warriors among the favorites on the NBA Finals odds board after trading for Bradley Beal to complete their Big Three with Kevin Durant and Devin Booker. They also tried to improve their depth by grabbing guys like Jusuf Nurkić, Grayson Allen, and Eric Gordon.

So, it's safe to say basketball in The Valley will be a little different this season. Last year the Suns were excellent at defending the perimeter, but that was in large part because they had Mikal Bridges and Cam Johnson on the roster for most of the season.

But those two were shipped out for Durant, and with those guys mentioned above, it looks like the Suns' plan this season will be to outscore everyone as opposed to preventing buckets.

It will also be interesting to see how Frank Vogel works his rotations early, but I’m not sure if he’ll have an answer for the Splash Bros. I like Curry to let it fly on opening night in front of a raucous home crowd on opening night and hit the Over on his made three prop.

If you're looking to get the most value out of this play, FanDuel is offering a 50% profit boost for one NBA opening night bet, which would move this play up to a price of +142!

Prop: Over 4.5 made threes (-105 at FanDuel | +142 with 50% profit boost)

I hinted at this above, but while many were wondering how the fit with Chris Paul would go — at least in the preseason — it looked great. Paul averaged 5.8 assists in just over 20 minutes per game in the preseason, and it’s not like he’s slowed down with his advanced age. CP3 has averaged 9.5 assists per game over the last three seasons, so I'm adding Over 7.5 assists for Paul here.

Let’s close this SGP out where it started. Curry has always been an underrated rebounder for the Warriors. He averages 5.0 rebounds per game for his career and has averaged at least 5.7 boards every year dating back to 2017-18. No Draymond Green could mean more opportunities for Steph to grab some extra boards as well.
