Luton Town returned to England’s top flight for the first time since 1992 with a penalty shootout victory over Coventry City in the Championship play-off final at Wembley on Saturday. For the third time this season, Coventry and Luton could not be separated after 90 minutes. As in both regular season meetings, Luton took the lead only to be pegged back by the resurgent Sky Blues. Coventry's Fankaty Dabo was the first to miss their kick in a previously flawless rendition of penalties at the sudden death stage of the shootout, sending Luton to the Premier League for the first time since the com Pet ition's inception. Luton lost captain Tom Lockyer to a serious injury in the opening exchanges but it was Coventry that played without any direction.
