Brooklyn Nets fire head coach Jacque Vaughn. What comes next?

Image
Not even a week removed from a disastrous loss to the Boston Celtics, the Brooklyn Nets have seemingly decided they’ve seen enough. With that, the team is now without a head coach and - it must be said - no closer to improving its dismal record. Nets fire Jacque Vaughn According to a team announcement on Monday morning, the Brooklyn Nets have fired head coach Jacque Vaughn. Currently outside of the top 10 in the Eastern Conference with a record of 21-33, one can say the move is a shock but not a surprise. To be clear, the team has 28 Game s left to play in the regular season which is to say, this change comes at a less-than-ideal time. In their most recent outing, the Nets lost to the Boston Celtics 136-86. Needless to say, the 50-point deficit was likely the nail in Vaughn’s proverbial coffin. Yet, one has to wonder, is it the coach ’s fault? Nets say they have fired head coach Jacque Vaughn. Several players had lost confidence in Vaughn amid Nets’ struggles, per SNY sources. S...

Hawks' Trae Young didn't attend game vs. Nuggets over disagreement with coach Nate McMillan, per report

When Atlanta Hawks star Trae Young sat out Friday's game against the Denver Nuggets, head coach Nate McMillan ascribed his absence to a "miscommunication." Now, thanks to a report from Shams Charania and Sam Amick of The Athletic, we have a better idea of what that miscommunication actually was. According to Charania and Amick, Young skipped shootaround on Friday to focus on getting treatment for his shoulder soreness. He would then decide closer to game time whether or not he would be able to play. This apparently was not approved by McMillan, who gave Young two options: come off of the bench, or don't attend the game at all. Young wound up choosing the latter. The Hawks wound up defeating the Nuggets, 117-110, and are now 13-10 with the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference. Statistically speaking, though, Young is having a bit of a down year. His shooting percentages are down across the boar...

Hawks coach Nate McMillan responds to report suggesting he may resign: 'We'll move on past that'

After a report emerged Friday afternoon suggesting that Atlanta Hawks coach Nate McMillan is strongly considering resigning amid a disappointing 17-18 start, the Hawks coach responded to the report prior to his team's game against the Lakers.  "I read that article briefly, I've never spoke to that reporter before," McMillan said. "I think the last two weeks he's written a couple articles with some sources in our organization that are making some comments about me, and some things that I'm saying and doing. Look, at the end of the year, I'll do as I've always done, at the end of the season I talk with my family and see if I still have that flame, that fire to continue next season. That's the end of the season. All of us think about retiring, but that's at the end of the season. So we'll move on past that." Based on that response, McMillan didn't really ref...

Celtics do not plan to remove interim tag from coach Joe Mazzulla during the season, per report

Joe Mazzulla has exceeded expectations as interim coach of the Boston Celtics. He is 24-10 through 34 games, leading the Celtics to the NBA's best record thus far this season. Caesars Sportsbook has him as the early favorite to win the NBA's Coach of the Year award with strong odds at plus-175. For a coach who took over in September, it would be hard to ask for much more. And yet, the Celtics don't plan to rush into a long-term commitment. According to The Boston Globe, the Celtics do not plan to remove the interim tag from Mazzulla during the season . More simply, this means that the Celtics are not ready to make Mazzulla their full-time head coach . That is still a decision they could eventually make. However, they do still have suspended coach Ime Udoka under contract for next season and beyond. He was initially a candidate to replace Steve Nash with the Brooklyn Nets, but they ultimately decided ...

Rockets coach Stephen Silas returns to team after death of father Paul Silas: 'Very proud to be my dad's son'

Houston Rockets coach Stephen Silas was back on the bench for his team's 111-97 victory over the Phoenix Suns on Tuesday night after missing a game due to the  death of his father , NBA great Paul Silas. The win was the second straight for the Rockets, who have shown some growth this season, despite the fact that they currently sit at the bottom of the standings in the competitive Western Conference.  Though his heart was heavy upon his return , Silas was happy to be back doing what he loves to do. In difficult times, basketball can serve as a solid distraction.  "It was definitely great to be back," Silas said after the game, via ESPN. "I love these guys. I love this team. I kind of didn't want the game to end because now it's like real life starts up again."   Even though he was still grieving, Silas felt that getting back on the sideline and coaching his team would be the best wa...
