Arizona mother sentenced to life in prison without parole for murder in starvation of 6-year-old son

An Arizona woman who pleaded guilty to murder in the starvation death of her 6-year-old son has been sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. -- An Arizona woman who pleaded guilty to murder in the starvation death of her 6-year- old son was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole on Thursday after witnesses described the horrors of the tiny closet that reeked of urine where he and his young brother were kept and denied food. Elizabeth Archibeque's lawyer had asked that her sentence include the possibility of parole after 35 years partly because she had agreed to plead guilty to first-degree murder and child abuse in the 2020 death of Deshaun Martinez. But Coconino Superior Court Judge Ted Reed said that while her expression of remorse was genuine, her “heinous, cruel and depraved behavior” warranted imprisonment for “the rest of your natural life.” One police detective testified Thursday that she had never seen an

Rare Fossil Captures Small Mammal Attacking Larger Dinosaur Before Likely Being Buried Alive

The discovery sheds shocking new light on ancient ecosystems.   Conventional wisdom has always held that in prehistoric periods when early mammals lived alongside dinosaurs, that those mammals were generally meek and avoided their reptile overlords for fear of becoming prey. However, an incredibly rare fossil find has turned that theory on its head, in which a small mammal was perfectly preserved attacking a larger dinosaur. On Tuesday, researchers published findings stemming from the dramatic fossil, unearthed over a decade ago by farmers in the Chinese province of Liaoning. Dating back around 125 million years ago to the Cretaceous Period, the fossil shows a Repenomamus robustus, a four-legged mammal about the size of a cat, entangled with a two-legged, plant-eating Psittacosaurus lujiatunensis dinosaur, which was about four feet in length. Neither animal were believed to be full adults. But the positioning is unmistakably clear—the badger-like Repenomamus was perched on top

In an interview with ABC "This Week" co-anchor Martha Raddatz, Inslee, one of the Democratic Party's loudest voices on addressing climate , spoke gravely about the threat of a changing world: "The fuse has been burning for decades, and now the climate change bomb has gone off.
