Spurs vs Suns Picks, Predictions & Odds Tonight - NBA
The Phoenix Suns looked like they had mortgaged all semblance of depth to add both Kevin Durant and Bradley Beal to their roster since February, but they are holding up rather well to start this season, even without Beal and star guard Devin Booker. Will that bench be able to outpace the San Antonio Spurs?
I break down the NBA odds and offer my best free NBA picks and predictions for the Spurs vs the Suns on October 31.

Spurs vs Suns predictions
At some point, the Phoenix Suns will let up. Working without Devin Booker and Bradley Beal will cost them. And yes, both have been ruled out for tonight.
But Phoenix has begun the season 3-0 against the spread, including covering twice as an underdog. Booker played in just the opener, and Beal has not played at all, while some guy named Kevin Durant has. Remember him?
The 7-foot Hall of Famer is averaging 27.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 4.0 assists, and he isn’t even humming yet. Durant is shooting 27.3 percent from 3 thus far, making just one in each game. Does anyone expect that to continue?
The fact that the Suns are 3-0 ATS, and 2-1 outright, without any Beal, with only one game of Booker, and with Durant playing inefficiently underscores how good Phoenix’s depth is, somewhat surprisingly.
Eric Gordon is still a volume shooter — though, he is also struggling from beyond the arc, just hitting 29.2 percent. Jusuf Nurkic is less than a point shy of averaging a double-double. Josh Okogie, Grayson Allen, Yuta Watanabe, and Drew Eubanks are all performing as quality rotation pieces, maybe more so out of Okogie.
But this is supposed to be a game preview, not an argument to invest in the Suns to win the West, if not also the NBA Finals.
The Spurs have beaten the spread only when playing a team just as bad as they are, the Rockets. When facing quality comPetition, San Antonio has fallen short of expectations. That is what will happen when relying on Cedi Osman, Malaki Branham, and Doug McDermott for legitimate minutes.
The Spurs future is promising, beyond Victor Wembanyama. Devin Vassell, Keldon Johnson, Tre Jones, and Jeremy Sochan all should be enjoyed, but when their youth doesn’t show, the bench’s flaws do.
Look at tonight this way: Osman, Branham, and McDermott are averaging 52.4 total minutes per game. They are NBA players, sure. Fringe ones, but yes, NBA players. They will still be the liability tonight, as Phoenix’s unexpected depth will establish a gap during those minutes.
Not to mention, at some point, Durant and Gordon will start hitting their threes.

Spurs vs Suns same-game parlay
Suns -6.5
Kevin Durant 2+ made threes
Victor Wembanyama 15+ points
Durant simply will not keep missing threes. He may be 35 years old and in his 17th season, but this dropoff would be too stark. He made 2.8 threes per game last season with Phoenix, making 53.7 percent of his deep takes in that eight-game sample before the playoffs. And then in 11 playoff games, he hit at least a pair of threes in five of them, shooting 33.3 percent from deep.
He struggled in the playoffs, most notably going 2-of-12 from deep at Denver in Game 2 of the Western Conference Semifinals, but this 3-of-11 showing to start the season would still be an abrupt change.
Wembanyama’s point total may hinge on keeping this Game in range and keeping him playing long enough, and the spread is close enough to suggest that will happen. He has cracked 15 in two of three Games, the exception being when the Clippers blew out the Spurs.
At some point, Wembanyama will also start hitting threes, going 0-of-8 in his last two games. Just one or two would propel him toward this prop.

Spurs vs Suns and Over/Under analysis
The Suns opened as 7.5-point favorites and hung there into Tuesday before it became more and more clear Booker may not play, dropping to -7 in the late morning and then to -6.5 when Booker’s absence tonight was confirmed.
That likelihood was baked into the opening spread, otherwise, this would have fallen further. The closest thing to a point guard on Phoenix’s roster is worth more than a point.
If San Antonio was a bit closer to being a competitive team — this is simply a fact and not meant as a knock on any of that young talent or Gregg Popovich — then losing Booker’s ball-handling could be catastrophic for the Suns.
The total opened Monday evening at 230 before falling to 226 by sunrise this morning, dipping to 224.5 on the Booker news before rebounding to 225.5.
When Durant, Gordon, and Wembanyama begin hitting from deep, it will come at the expense of some deflated totals. If that is tonight, don’t say you were not warned.
